PROJECT REPORT
Oceanside #3

the CONCEPT

The Mission

Not many things annoy me more than poor workmanship…. But one of the things that does, is for a “contractor” (and I use that term loosely in most cases) to take a homeowner’s hard earned cash, half do a job, then run off with the money and not finish the project. Unfortunately, this was one of those cases. I got a call from the lady of the house, who outlined their woes. Said contractor (who is now back in town working at one of our competitors) had left them with a bare shotcrete shell, talked the homeowner into paying him the remaining balance for “materials”, then ran off to Texas with the cash.

The Details

The brief was obviously simple on this one, follow the existing plans and finish the pool for the homeowners. And the worst thing is, the design is actually really good, the guys got talent, shame he’s also a crook.

The Challenge (because there always is one)

What went wrong on this project happened before we rode in on our white horse and saved the day. Our portion of the work went like clockwork. I know these are basics, but even the best of us fall for a sob story every now and then. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GIVE A CONTRACTOR MONEY UP FRONT FOR ANYTHING. THE MAXIMUM DEPOSIT THAT CAN BE TAKEN IN CALLIFORNIA IS $1000 OR 10% OF THE CONTRACT VALUE UP TO $1000.
